MOTHS AND BUTTERFLIES-JEWELRY THROUGH TIME

For centuries artisans have designed jewelry of moths and butterflies. From the designers at Tiffany’s to the Royal Courts of Europe these insects have been a favorite adornment for many. Below are just a few of the many brooches I offer through my Etsy Store and also every Sunday at the Melrose Trading Post. I invite you to visit and if you have any questions please email me @ karasvintagejewelry@gmail.com

VEGA MADDUX INSPIRED JEWELRY

Hollywood in the sixties. What a time!

Back in the sixties 33-1/3 long playing records and the smaller, faster 45 rpm’s were the King & Queen of your listening pleasure. The northwest corner of Sunset and Vine was the castle known as, Wallach’s Music City.

A person could go in there and sit in one of their small glass enclosed cubicles and listen to the record of their choice, and stare out the through the glass listening to music and watching the world go by. In turn, like a small hamster, the world could watch you move, laugh, or become teary eyed as you listened to the favorite heartbreaker of the time. You didn’t care that you were on exhibit displaying every kind of emotion that music was capable of creating.

Within just a couple of blocks in any direction there was something special that was Hollywood. Like the Capitol Record Building, the Brown Derby Restaurant that actually was in the shape of a derby, the Pantages Theater when it was a movie theater, the Moulin Rouge, and the Palladium.

Hollywood, then just like now, had its Royality, and with it came the Royal Court of followers. Those individuals that created an industry built on dreams for the rest of us to wish for. The camera people, makeup artists, actors, tour guides, writers, fashion designers, set designers, the list goes on. Each one of those individuals an important part of what made Hollywood great back then.

One of those people was a woman of many talents named Vega Maddux. Her jewelry designs were colorful, exquisite, and beautifully designed. Inspired by Vega Maddux I found these pieces that I have available at my Etsy Store and invite you to view the photographs below.

Thank you,

Kara
